The Real Thing song focus: ALL ABOUT YOU The idea of "falling in love" is such an obsession with our world. From our pop songs and movies to internet chat lines, reality TV and billions of dollars in advertising; "we wanna know where love is". Let's be totally honest the world doesn't know. If the Hollywood version of love were true, people would be living their "happy ever after" dreams now. Instead, just like most of the pop icons they watch, they are miserable failures at love. So what's the truth? The bible says that "God is Love". (1John 4:8) Think about that. If you're going to be loved (truly) and if you're going to love, God has to be part of the equation. A person can only give what they have. So here's the math: if there is going to be true love in the room, somebody there has to be receiving from God. John 1:1 says "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself". Wow! God and His Word are inseparable; one. Since we know God is Love, now we understand that God's Word is Love. That means God's law is Love. His commandments are Love. His Son is Love. What a beautiful mystery. You might say, "sounds cool but I still don't understand". That's okay, you're being honest and that's the place to start. The world teaches us that love is physical, driven by lust, convenient and based on our own self-centered agendas for being fulfilled. Of course it's socially dressed up with a sound track and all the sweetness that sells a lie. God's Word of truth cuts exactly 180 degrees opposite to this dead end. Romans 5:8 says, "God proves His own love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners (enemies of God), His own Son died for us." Amazing! It's God's plan, His way, His Love and His Word. God is for you. His Word is a will of love dedicated to you. The best the laws of this world can do are to provide some form of protection for people in a general sort of way. God's laws on the other hand are living, breathing words of love designed to protect, bless, prosper, increase, lead and save you. No wonder the Psalmist said in Psalm 119:97, "Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all day long." When you realize day after day how much God loves you and how incredibly good He is, your heart will force your mouth to confess, "Heavenly Father I'm all about You!" - Stephen Marshall Next entry: Who Turned Out the Lights |
